Sales Training at Car Dealerships Is the Key

For those who run the sales departments at automotive car dealerships they know that the more money they spend in training their sales force the more sales the dealership will accrue. Most sales training includes positive feedback and motivational speeches, team work and success training. There is an aire of competitiveness too; No one leaves this car lot without buying a car!

It is indeed one of the most hyped types of programs in the sales profession, perhaps it is often used wrong too, as so many people or customers are left with a bad taste in their mouths when it comes to car sales people and we have all heard those jokes too.

But selling cars does not have to be a negative thing, as most people who shop for new cars are indeed interested in buying a car and do not know how to go about it or what questions that they should be asking. A good sales person can take the edge off and help these customers into the car of their choice effortlessly. The salesman in this case is no longer a sales person but rather a problem solver.

It therefore makes sense to train the salespeople to think like problem solvers, as well as give them the knowledge of the product, motivation and the tools they need as well. Consider this in 2006.

Don't Have a Sales Manager - Hire a Sales Training Consultant to Help Increase Sales!

Omnipresent Sales Forces

In the increasingly competitive business landscape, sales teams of business establishments have become indispensable features. From start ups to established big multi-national companies – every organization that sells products or services has a sales team. The size of the sales teams may vary from a one man army to battalions of sales people, but a sales department is a must for most companies and firms.

Role of Sales Managers

Usually a sales manager leads the team of sales people. This need not be true in all cases. With sales persons reporting directly to the vice-president or to the owner (in case of small firms) there are no sales managers in many organizations. However, a sales manager is expected to lead the sales team. He is supposed to be the friend, philosopher, and guide of the sales persons. Typically a sales manager monitors the progress of the individual sales persons and the team as well. Due to various reasons, ranging from personal to professional, performance of the sales team gets affected from time to time. The sales manager sorts out the professional issues and advises as a friend on personal ones. He also acts as a link between the sales staff and senior management.

Sales Training Consultants are not Mere Substitutes, They are Better

In the absence of a sales manager this vital role can be entrusted to sales training consultants. Sales training consultants are seasoned and skilled sales professionals that have sound market knowledge and profound insight in to human behavior as well. Their sales wisdom and information about the latest market trends come with diligent study and years of in field experience. Sales training consultants are adept at detecting flaws in the sales methodology of a business organization. They are equally skilled in zeroing in on causes of under- performance of the sales staff. They are part marketing experts and part psychologists that are respected for their capability to suggest remedies to increase sales. From motivating the sales staff to weeding out unproductive sales practices, these gurus of marketing are good at the entire gamut of sales related activities. These pros not only perform what sales managers can but they also do some more such as:

  • Sales training consultants can present the much emphasized out-of-the-box thinking.

· They can develop better rapport with the sales staff by their friendly and easy manners. It has been observed that sales personnel trust sales training consultants and open up about their problems.

· They can call a spade a spade when it comes to honest analysis as they are not on the pay roll of the hiring firm. So, hire a sales training consultant to boost your sales with the use of tested and proven methods.

How Sales Training Can Help Land the Toughest Sale

Businesses have always had their own training programs, especially those businesses that deal in sales. Whether it was called orientation or training, sales people were required to attend these meetings in order to perform their jobs to the employers' specification. The problem was the orientation or training programs were created by people who did not understand the requirements of sales and were often ineffective.

Sales training courses were developed to teach salespeople an overall view on Sales Techniques. A sales training professional will teach your salespeople the fine art of sales.

A sales training course or seminar can teach your salespeople the fine art of sales. It can give them the confidence and finesse to close the sale. Salespeople have to appear confident and self-assured in order to convince the potential client that your product or service is right for them. Sales training teaches each one to have the confidence and persistence to land even the toughest sale.

Sales training also teaches your salespeople how to communicate with clients. At times, it is necessary to finesse them, and with sales training, this skill can be perfected.
No matter what you sell, your salespeople need to have a good sense whether or not the client is interested in your product, and with sales training, your sales force can be taught the art of reading the client. Sales training can also teach your sales force how to become proficient in the art of negotiation, a skill that is needed to insure the maximum amount of profit.

Sales is all about who you know. It is called networking, and in today's business world, it is more important than ever. In the past, all that was needed was a telephone. However, The Internet is growing everyday, and keeping good business contacts with allow your business to grow with it. Sales training can teach your salespeople how to network successfully on the Internet and develop solid business contacts.

Another skill that salespeople need is to motivate and be motivated. Clients respond better to a motivated salesperson than one who is quiet and reserved. Sales training teaches your salespeople motivation and how to use it to their advantage.

Before you send your salespeople out to meet potential clients, you have to be confident that they will be able to not only be able to sell your products or services, you also have to be confident that they will be able to close the sale.

Sales training teaches your salespeople how to successfully close a sale. Highly trained professionals who come to your business teach the sessions. If your sales force is in different locations, online sessions can be set up for them to attend at their convenience. Sales training schedules are very flexible and can be arranged at any time.

In today's competitive business world, competition is fierce and it is necessary for businesses to give themselves an edge over their competition. Sales training gives you that edge by equipping your salespeople with the tools and knowledge that they need to get the job done.

Why Most Sales Training is a Waste of Money

From our interviews with more than 6,000 sales professionals, we estimate that 85% of the dollars companies spend on sales training and customer service training is wasted. The goal of training is to educate and change behaviors, and we all know you don't change habits over night. In other words, sales and customer service professionals have to practice new behaviors for at least a month before they become part of their professional DNA. That's why a follow-up component is essential. Without it, employee behaviors regress back soon after the training event.

Our research shows that a 6-8 week follow-up program is the most effective way to iron in the new attitudes, habits and skills that were learned during training. During the follow up sales and customer service professionals need to work side-by-side with their managers to ensure that the performance of the team continues to improve long after the training program is over. Here are six best practices for effective follow up:

1. Communicate expectations: Sales and customer service professionals need to know what is expected of them. This means that expectations have to be communicated often in different forms (e.g., emails, in meetings, memos, postings, etc.)

2. Inspect what we expect: Sales and customer service professionals need to be observed using the new skills and behaviors with live customers.

3. Realistic feedback: Sales and customer service professionals need to hear real feedback including positive reinforcement (to keep them doing the right behaviors) and constructive feedback (to remind them to do the right behaviors)

4. Skill transfer sessions: Managers and coaches need to continue to teach and refine the skills and behaviors learned during training. These skill transfer sessions can be 1-on-1 and/or in a group.

5. Acknowledge and reward: New behaviors stick best when they are acknowledged and rewarded.

6. Reinforcement training: Typically conducted 90-120 days after the initial training
By following up sales and customer service training with these six best practices, you will make sure that your training dollars are not wasted. In fact, implementing an effective follow-up program is your best guarantee to getting a great return on your investment on sales and customer service training.

What Can an Effective Sales Training Do For Your Company

When you are in charge of a company, whether you own or manage it, you will want your sales people to be well versed in all of the best sales techniques. One of the best methods to achieving this goal is to effectively train your sales people.

Sales are the most important aspect to a successful business. It is vital that your sales staff get the training that will best help them to achieve the sales your company is after. One of the best ways to get the best training for your staff is to hire an outside company to do the training. You should do some research into the company that you hire to do your training and make sure that they teach online sales as part of their training program.

There are many methods that your sales staff will have to learn to be effective sales people. Marketing strategies and online selling are just a couple of them. Learning how sales works through advertising is another technique that your sales staff should learn in their training.

The sales trainer will have to evaluate the needs of the business to determine the methods that will be taught to your staff. Every business operates its sales department using different techniques and strategies.

Advertising will be taught to your sales staff so that they can decide on the best approach to attract and bring in new customers. Your staff will understand how they can use advertising and the correct methods and approaches are used to keep customers and your business growing.

There are many ways to conduct your training sessions to accommodate all of your sales staff. Some of the training can be done in a classroom or seminar fashion to those sales people who are able to attend. They can also have sales training online if they are unable to coordinate times to attend. This is great for those members of your sales staff who are away from the office on sales trips a great deal of the time.

Some businesses choose not to take advantage of sales training. There is a great deal of competition in business today and any advantage that a business can gain will give you rewards in the end. There is also a new way of doing business with the Internet. Your sales staff must understand how this business works if you are to compete.

Many businesses feel that sales training is not cost effective, however when you compare the before and after profit margins you will see the difference that sales training can make.

The business world has gotten smaller and smaller with the involvement of the Internet. You are now competing with businesses from every corner of the world. You will need to catch the attention of your customers and bring them in with your products and sales techniques.

Sales training is a good idea for anyone in your company that has contact with customers. There is a great deal to learn for everyone on how to deal with customers. Customer service and office personnel can learn something from these sales training seminars.

Sales Training Seminars

Sales training seminars help fix sales quotas and targets. Sales quotas or targets should reflect the firm's personal selling objectives, its overall sales plan, and the size of the sales force and the nature of the sales territories. Sales quotas or targets are quantified objectives for salespeople. The quotas should neither be too high nor too low. They should match what a good salesperson can accomplish by putting forth a sincere effort.

Quotas must be fixed, taking into account not only the potential of the territory and past sales, but also other factors such as the importance of the territory to the firm, the market share sought from the territory and the profitability of sales in that territory. The quotas must be fixed using reliable techniques. Sales executives should not set sales quotas arbitrarily. A participative approach is preferred. The salesperson must be encouraged and trained to forecast the demand in a territory and the sales quotas, which can be accomplished.

Quotas must be fixed for each product line and item and be separated each month to facilitate effective monitoring and control of the sales effort and budget. Customer types and channel types should separate quotas. In addition to sales quotas, various activity quotas should be fixed for salespeople. The number of sales calls, the number of dealer contacts, the number of displays and demonstrations, the number of new accounts to be brought in and the number of new dealers to be added on, could form part of the activity quotas. Some firms set cost targets and profit targets in addition to sales and activity targets for their sales force.

Sales training seminars also help create the sales force. The first step in developing an effective sales force is recruiting f first class salespeople. Training, motivation, development and other aspects of sales management will no doubt help the process. However, the people recruited must be good with a keen sense of selling.

Sales Training Courses Can Help You Close More Sales

As the global economy has changed over the past 12 months or so, more and more people are turning to Sales training courses to help them secure more sales.

For the past number of years companies have not had to worry about sales training as the economy was buoyant and sales people with the title of sales people did generally not need to fight for business. In fact to be honest in many industries they were order takers as opposed to salespeople. With this in mind sales training courses were not very popular as consumers with more money in their pockets were prepared to purchase anyway.

Based on personal experience I will try and explain what I mean:

If you were buying a new car in 1990 sales people would be trying every close in the book to sell the car to you. In fact they were even offering you a full weekend test drive, where you could take the car for the weekend to try and help you make the decision. In these times Sales training programmes and sales skills were badly needed as the market was tough. Formal sales training was a must for numerous companies.

Now roll on the clock 15 years to 2005 and see how difficult it was to take a car for a test drive for 30 minutes never mind a weekend. The problem was the market had changed and if you don't buy the car some one else will come in shortly after you and they will buy it. I understand this is generalising and it is not fair to paint everyone with the same brush. However this meant sales training courses were not in the same demand as sales training skills were not seen as a priority.

The same can be said for numerous industries, another example of this is the real estate business where purchasers trying to get on the property ladder were at times camping outside new housing developments overnight to secure a property. You have to ask the question how much sales training skills would the real estate agent need in this type of market?

The difficulty now from a sales training point of view is that many people who were recruited as sales people over the last number of years, are for the first time having to use the type of sales training skills that can be learned from attending sales training courses.

More and more companies are turning to sales training courses to up skill their salespeople to close more sales.

Would you like to close more sales? Frank O'toole from Premier Training is helping people to achieve with sales training. Sales Training Courses from Premier Training, let's achieve.

Sales Training Starts with Fundamentals

Many in sales training are of the opinion and I am too; that good sales training starts with the fundamentals. Such as verifying that the prospect is truly interested, understands what your product or service can do and is qualified and able to buy the product and services in the first place. And making sure the sales person can be engaging, listens, has customer service skills and can handle objects and either problem solve or explain without aggravating the potential customer or prospect.

Sales people must be able to understand the fundamentals of selling and those are not the only ones of course. Simply what came to mind as I was considering the fundamentals we use to teach our “Bonzai and Blitz Marketing Teams” who were very much into direct personal selling, cold calling on the phone, out of the blue sales visits and giving demos of our services. We always taught them the fundamentals, no sense in having new sales people out their burn good territories or turning off good prospects by using bad sales techniques.

We always took the philosophy that; “Sales Training Starts with Fundamentals” and although I am not a sales training guru like many of the popular authors and cassette tape experts in the field my advice comes from real life experience and let me tell you we always out sold our competitors and I would have it no other way. Consider all this in 2006.

How One Overlooked Marketing Strategy Plan Can Increase Your Bottom Line

Imagine you are running a big company or an organization, probably you are the marketing executive and definitely you need high sales. The best tactics you would implement is training your sales representatives on how best they can achieve great sales.

Some organizations or firms would have to employ or recruit a sales and marketing trainer to educate the sales representatives of that organization. Many tactics are implemented and these may include online training sales.

Great training is recommended for any business or organization. Sales trainers will advise you on various advantages and disadvantages of increasing sales by marketing, advertising, online sales.

Some techniques that are implemented by one organization may not suit the other because each businesses needs are unique. Sales trainers have been in the sales industry for many years and can determine what your business needs are and design a session that will benefit your company.

Another concept that is also used in sales training is the selection of your advertising media. If you are a new organization you most likely will want to draw in as many clients as possible. Sales training will allow your sales people to do this easily.

Sales training in the past has been difficult, especially when the majority of your sales force is out of the office.

With sales training, you can set up the training sessions in many different ways. You can hold in office sessions for new hires and in house sales people and online sessions for your sales people who are on the road.

Many businesses think that sales training is not necessary; that it is an added expense that their company can do without. However, businesses today are different than those of even ten years ago. They are more aggressive, and with more businesses joining the online community everyday, every business needs to have an edge over their competition. Sales training gives you that edge.

With so many businesses joining the online community, it has given consumers many more options on who to do business with. It has literally opened up the world to them. It is necessary for every business to be aggressive and creative in obtaining their business. Sales training teaches your sales people how to attract customers and close the sale.

Sales training is not just for your sales staff, it can be used by everyone in your office who has contact with your customers. It can teach valuable skills that can be used by your entire staff.

Businesses that have been skeptical about using sales training tracked their profit margin after the sales training session and have reported increased sales within the first month that the session was completed.

Every company is out there to make profits. Increase of sales is of paramount importance in an organization or firm. Whether the company is starting or it wants to expand it first has to undergo the kind of marketing strategies that they will use so as to create or increase sales. So definitely sales training in an organization is very important.

The Distinction Between Sales Coaching And Sales Training

How many times have you sat through a sales or product training program and walked away with only one idea or piece of useful information? And, you felt lucky to get that much.

Recently, I was asked, "What's the difference between coaching and training?" I thought about it for a moment and replied, "A training course may teach you how to do something specific, learn a new software program, or new sales techniques. Coaching works with you to implement what you have learned and master it over the long term. "

If we look at the bottom line, the truth is that most sales training programs have not made a significant difference in the sales professionals' earnings or the company's revenue from a single session or workshop.

For most sales professionals, the greatest improvement to their sales success is an ongoing commitment to professional development. Either self-guided or by using experts who can help release their fullest potential and capabilities. This is typically someone who has the training, skills, experience and desire in working with sales professionals, usually a coach or mentor. Long-term progress is more likely to come as a result of an ongoing commitment to professional success and not a training course.

The reality is that it takes time and commitment to develop new sales skills and competencies. If you want to achieve greater results, become a greater person, you can't just sit down and wait for it to happen. To make significant changes you must first look at what adjustments you need to make, and then commit to an ongoing process of change.

The philosophy behind the 1-4-All Coaching Approach is about ongoing learning; it's about incremental growth over time to create significant change and progress; it's about supported personal and professional development. So with all our programs we encourage our clients to commit to an ongoing coaching relationship in order to support the learning and extract the greatest ROI from their time and resources.

Sales Training Tip #15; Stay on Topic

Sales training professionals need to make sure that their sales force stays on topic when doing cold calling or when in the sales process in personal meetings. All too often we see salespeople stray from the subject of the products or services they are selling.

It is good to developer relationship with the prospect, but if you keep talking on all kinds of issues then you're liable to disagree on something and you'll kill the sale because you started talking about religion or politics. Sales training professionals need to make sure that the salespeople stay on topic and remember why you're calling in the first place; to offer their goods or services to the prospect or potential client.

Sales managers and sales training professionals need to make sure that the salespeople understand that they should not waste time and should move the sales process along forward for the betterment of their commission base, the prospect and the company profits. Salespeople are in business to make sales not to shoot the breeze.

It therefore make sense that the salesperson should be taught by the sales trainer and monitored by the sales manager to make sure that they stay focused and do not deviate into full-on off topic conversations. This only wastes the time of the prospect and the salesperson. Please consider this in 2006.

Bike Shop Sales Training

Most bike shop sales people are there because they love bicycles and this indeed helps them answer all the questions that a rider might have and yet this is not the only thing that a bicycle shop sales person needs. You see, they also need good sales training and they need to listen and help the rider or shopper understand why things cost so much, the differences between types and which bike might be best for them.

Giving a cyclist too many choices could lead to a NO Sale and the rider leaves to go shopping, perhaps never to return and that means lost sales. To prevent this they will need training and good training too. Not only sales training but they need to be in training too, cyclist training.

Why you ask? Well selling bicycles is not like selling ride on lawn mowers. Bicycles are much quieter and go a heck of a lot faster too. The experienced cyclist with knowledge is needed in the bike shops of America, because the bike shops are losing sales due to the lack of abilities and sales training of their floor sales folks.

Recently, I over heard a lady asking questions about a certain bike. The guy was very knowledgeable but he did not listen. Later that week I went to another bike shop in town and saw the lady picking up a new bike, which she had bought the day before and she bought all the extras including a GPS, she spent about $2,200 and that is money the first bike shop lost.

GAS Up Your Sales Training

Is your sales training you where you want to be? Are you satisfied with your sales training results?

Search the Internet and you will millions of hits on sales training. Browse any book store and find hundreds of books on sales training from Zig Ziglar to Jeff Gitomer. So with all of this wealth of information, why isn't most sales training effective? Why does it not deliver the desired results?

The reasons are far more simple than most people realize and reside within these three words:

  • Goals
  • Attitudes
  • Self leadership skills

Goals The goal of sales training is to increase sales. However, tell me how many sales people actively set and achieve their own personal goals? From my experiences, the answer is probably less than 10%.

Goal setting is a skill that is presumed to be within each individual’s life experiences. Yet, the truth is that most people do not know how to consistently (key word) set and achieve their own personal goals.

Sales training should always include a proven goal setting process. This process must be reinforced and supported by goal setting tools.

Attitudes Without the right attitudes, behaviors will not change. Much of the sales training that I have been a part of or have witnessed involves changing specific behaviors. Until the attitudes are changed, the behaviors will not change. For it is our attitudes that are demonstrated through our behaviors.

SkillsFinally, skills needs to be updated. Again, most sales training focuses on selling skills such as scripts, cold calling, etc. These are valid and necessary skills. But the real difference lies within the self leadership skills or strong interpersonal skills that will either make or break the sale.

When the sales training includes goals, attitudes and self leadership skills, the investment of all resources will quickly yield a positive return. And, then all you need to do is sit back and watch the increase in sales to the bottom line.

Simply speaking, leaders are readers. If you enjoyed this article, you may find my first combination ebook and eworkbook of interest at http://www.processspecialist.com/sales-training-book-htm for Simply Speaking, Increase Your Sales.

Effective Sales Training Begins By Defining Your Desired Results

Are you unhappy with your sales training? Possibly, you are not getting the results that you want because you failed to define those before you began? Read why this should be your first step if you desire effective sales training that delivers a positive return on investment (ROI).

Simply speaking, what are the results that you want the sales training to deliver? These results need to be very specific.

For example, maybe you want the sales training to improve sales. Before you schedule any sales training, you need to make sure that the issue is really poor selling skills.

Many times in attempting to improve organizational performance, symptoms are sometimes confused with problems. Then the initial gut reaction is to solve the symptom while ignoring the real problem.

For example, sales are down in the new car dealership. Management believes the issue is poor sales skills, which might be part of the problem. However, management does not have a strategic plan along with performance issues specific to the finance manager and service manager are contributing to the lack of sales. Yet, these two problems are not addressed.

Other times with entrepreneurs, who have a small sales staff, I have witnessed this scenario. The entrepreneur wants to increase sales. He or she believes the answer is more sales training, but the entrepreneur will not release control of activities directly related to sales. He or she must process all orders to finalize all quotations. Orders are processed late and quotations have the wrong information. Then when the order arrives and it is wrong, he or she blames the salesperson.

When the results are clearly defined, then the sales training can target the necessary gaps to achieve those results provided those gaps are sales related. However sale training cannot close performance gaps specifically not related to sales.

If you are considering sales training or currently have a sales training program, make sure that you focused on the correct action. Failure to do so will only increase your own frustration and the frustration of other team members including your sales force.

Getting Better Results Through Sales Training

Sales training is vital to the development and success of all sales professional. Most companies, if not all, offers sales training to their sales force either through in house programs or outside sales seminars. This training makes the difference between being successful at selling and being an average sale professional.

Training makes a difference and helps you to adopt a new approach to selling. Instead of continually talking all the time and working much harder you can learn to work much smarter and use effective questions to close the sale. Start by using general questions and then narrow yourself presentation to more specific questions. The purpose of these questions should be to reveal the benefits and value of your products and how you can help the prospect in his/her situation by use of such products.

For better results you need to commit yourself to the training you are receiving. Try to schedule a timetable of realistic goals and then work towards achieving those goals. To achieve such goals attitude is important. Strive to maintain a positive attitude because this will give you energy to adhere to your training. View sales training as a necessity to your development and realize that you may have to change a few things you may be doing.

During training there will always be other sale professionals who are negative and may not see the real value of such training. They may argue that sales training will not make much difference anyway. Avoid these persons and surround yourself with positive people who believe in training to obtain better results. The support you receive by so doing will energize you to apply training skills to achieve better results.

The Necessity of Continuous Sales Training

The prosperity and popularity of successful companies is obviously the result of continuous training. Without proper sales training, a business is unable to stand out from the rest, thus having poor exposure and low credibility on the market. In order to achieve and maintain the success of their companies, business owners need to make sure that all their team members benefit from frequent sales training. While a short sales training course or seminary can familiarize your sales staff with the fundamentals of sales, the long-term success of your business can only be achieved through the means of ongoing sales training. Ongoing sales training is vital for maintaining the pace with other businesses in your branch and it can also help your company to get ahead of the competition.

Ongoing sales training programs are very important for any business, as they can help salespeople to maintain a good level of sales performance. It is important to note that the great majority of salespeople only improve their selling performance at first, being unable to progress further without frequent sales training interventions. Considering the fact that marketing and sales are a marathon, not a sprint, it is vital to frequently intervene with new, effective sales training solutions among the members of your business.

Proper sales training programs work on multiple levels: they provide the members of your business team with the latest marketing solutions and strategies, strengthen the relationships between the members of your team and also boost the morale and the motivation of your entire sales staff. An effective sales training program can have a very refreshing effect on the entire business, announcing a new stage in the activity of the company.

There are two main categories of sales training: self-study oriented sales training, which allows the trainees to learn on their own and trainer-oriented sales training, taught by a sales “coach”. The first category of sales training includes multimedia training, tradebooks and textbooks that contain various selling techniques and strategies. Trainer-oriented sales training includes programs that involve active participation to courses, seminaries or laboratories. In contrast with self-study oriented sales training materials, trainer-oriented sales training programs are by far the best means of acquiring a wide range of skills and abilities that can considerably increase the sales efficiency of your business.

Trainer-oriented sales training programs have the advantage of offering trainees the chance to engage in role play situations, thus allowing attendants to quickly polish their skills. During the entire program, the trainees are encouraged to express their opinions and ideas, being provided with proper feed-back from their trainers. Trainer-oriented sales training programs can effectively improve the skills and abilities of your business team members, thus enhancing the overall performance of your company.
